Ceramic Tiles
Unglazed ceramic tiles are usually made in Portugal or France. The palette is limited to natural stone colours. The tiles are very hard wearing, frost proof and they are smooth on both sides. They are non reflective which makes them excellent to use for backgrounds as they pull back next to any motif in shiny glass, that hence will appear to come forward. The uniform colour and non reflective surface give them a tendency to look flat if used in solid areas. Therefore peppering with 1 or 2 other nuances than the main colour is always a good tip. Unglazed ceramic tiles are easy to cut and very reasonable in price.
